Most members choose to be either an interior or exterior firefighter. Interior firefighters are the firefighters who enter a structure to put a fire out and our trained to a more advanced level. Exterior firefighters are trained to perform outside of the fire building assisting with duties suck as putting up ladders and advancing fire hose into a structure. Training is provided free of charge by Erie County and New York State.
The Duty Shift program is a program that allows members to schedule their participation time. The program requires 288 hours per year which equates to roughly five to six hours per week. Duty Shift members can still make calls outside of their scheduled shift and can participate in all of the social activities and other functions of the company. Duty Shift members must be either an Interior Firefighter within one year or an EMT with two years of joining.
Our EMS Only program is for members who have no interest in firefighting or are physically enable to do so. Members of this program must be a New York State certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) within two years. If you are not currently an EMT the training will be provided to you free of charge. Courses are offered throughout Erie County at different locations and times.
Our fire district runs a Junior Firefighter program for youths ages 13 through 18 years of age. Parental permission and a physical are required to be a Junior Firefighter. Junior Firefighters drill twice a month and have a monthly meeting on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. The program has five levels of rank that each Junior advances through over time and with proper training.
Our company has a Ladies Auxiliary that supports the fire company by providing food and beverages during major fires or incidents and at our December monthly meeting which is held on the first Sunday of the month at 2 p.m. They also conduct their own meeting and have their own social functions at the firehouse.
